Abstract The objective of this thesis is to design an economically and environmentally acceptable alternative system to transfer sediment sand in the bottom of waterway Channels for the purpose ’of dredging or sand bypassing by fluidization and jet p._. Also, a theotetica! formula had boen detived to predict jet pump performance under various working conditions using basic fluid mechanics: equations (continuity, momentum and energy equations). The thesis includes investigation about the perfonnance of jet pump • under the effect of some parameters such as: area ratio, mass flow ratio, driving nozzle to mixing chamber distance~ suction inlet configuration and speed of jet pump when moves during operation. A special experimental test rig has been designed and built to study the effect of these panunetets experimentally, A set of experiments were carried to cheek the validity of the theoretical formula to predict jet pump performance and to examine some of alternatives of jet pump parts that give the best performance. from the experimental work the best values for design parameters have been obtained. Further, the experimental results are compared with the theoretical results and the other previous works, which showed a relatively good agreement. |
