Abstract The present study was contemplated on one hundred and fourteen equine cases that encompassed eighty-five clinical cases, six unoperable cases, eight experimental horses and fifteen control animals. They had admitted to Surgery clinic-Faculty of Veterinary Medicine-Cairo University from October 2004 to October 2008. Equine colic is an emergency should be treating as early as possible to reduce changes in the vital parameters and subsequent deterioration of gut viability before eight hours from the onset of clinical signs. The final diagnosis has no strict guidelines or list of parameters to decide the need for surgery. Laparosurgeries through ventral midline and flank approaches are feasible and easy to perform with smooth recovery and successful consistent survival, using the chosen anaesthetic regimen including triple drip mixture and inhalational gases. Most of the equine colicky problems are related to management factors especially dietary changes, over feeding and inadequate water supply. |
