Abstract

The aim of the present work was to study the cardioopulmonary parameters in athletes of different sport games. A hundred and eighty male top athletes from the national teams were be the material of this study. They were classified according to the nature of their sport activity into contact (handball, hockey and karate) and non-contact (bicycling, swimming, diving, weight lifting and track and field) athletes, The contact group is divided into high endurance (handball and hockey) and low endurance (karate), and the non-contact group is divided into high endurance (bicycling) and low endurance (swimming, diving, weight lifting and track and field). They were subjected to questionnaire, medical examination, laboratory investigation and maximal exercise stress test on the ergo-oxyscrecn.
Variables studied were resting, exercise, post-exercise heart
rate and maximal oxygen consumption per minute, The exercise test on the bicycle ergometer with stepwise incremental loading revealed that, contact athletes have significantly lower heart rate and higher maximal oxygen consumption than non-contact athletes, also
high endurance contact athletes have significantly lower heart rate and high maximal oxygen consumption than low endurance contact athletes, and high endurance non-contact athletes have significantly lower heart rate and high maximal oxygen consumption than Low endurance non-contact athletes,
Results of recovery period measurements indicated that contact, high endurance contact and high endurance non-contact athletes have significantly lower heart rate at 1,3 and 5 minutes post-exercise than non-contact, low endurance contact and low endurance non-contact athletes.
