Abstract

This study was undertaken to compare clinical efficacy and safety of a thermal balloon system with hysteroscopic roller ball in the treatment of menorrhagia in premenopausal women. The present study included 60 premenopausal patients attending the endogynaecological clinic at Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney, Australia between January, 2002 to July, 2003. They were presenting with menorrhagia due to dysfunctional uterine bleeding as diagnosed by previous endometrial sampling with diagnostic hysteroscopy and failed medical therapy. They were divided into two groups: Group A: Which included thirty patients who were treated by Vesta ablation system. Group B: Which included thirty patients who were treated by roller ball hysteroscopic endometrial ablation. Patients of both groups were preoperatively prepared with the following being performed: 1)Complete history taking. 2)General, abdominal and local examinations.
3)Laboratory investigations, ultrasonography. (endometrial sampling with a diagnostic hysteroscopy had been previously done).
