Abstract The etiology of growth failure in children with CHD appears to be mulifactorial and not entirely accounted for by haemodynamic disturbances or nutrition alone. The aim of the present study was to evaluate serum insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) levels in children with congenital heart diseases and to determine if these parameters have any relationship to nutritional status . This study was conducted on thirty five patients 22 patients with acyanotic congenital heart diseases (group Ι) & 13 patients with cyanotic congenital heart diseases (group ІІ) and 20 apparently normal children as controls of with same age, sex and socioeconomic status (group ІІІ ) with mean age was 14.3 ± 8.7 months ( range from 1 month to eighty four months). |
