Abstract

Yeats has been widely criticized for his plays. He has been considered too isolated in his thinking and subject matter. Helen Vendler who gives a brilliant
analysis of his plays, concludes by saying they are written for a coterie theatre, remarking on ~he Death Of Cachulain that lithe play is no more compelling, dramatic-
ally speaking than the other late plays, which is to sey almost not at all. I agree with T.R. Henn that the
last plays must be read as dramatic poems. III This
