Abstract

Summery br This study aimed to assess the therapeutic effect of honey on Stomatitis as complicating chemotherapy in children in Sohag Governorate. br The study was carried out in the cancer institute at sohage governorate. The study included a 100 children aged 6-12 years and suffering -#102;-#114;-#111;-#109; stomatitis who receive a honey as a therapy complicating chemotherapy and also receiving routine medicine to stomatitis as a complicating chemotherapies -#102;-#114;-#111;-#109; 15/9/2009 to 22/5/2010 br The studied were evaluated regulating br a- Socio demographic data of child such as name, age, sex, birth -#111;-#114;-#100;-#101;-#114;, parents’ occupation, level of education, address, , and number of siblings) .The educational status of the Family, the occupational status of the effects. Patient history (Family history).Current health status (diagnosis, stage of disease, child response to chemotherapy. Assessment the presence of side effect related to chemotherapy such as gastrointestinal tract ( nausea and vomiting , stomatitis , diarrhea) , central nerves system ( convulsion , headache and disturbed consciousness) , skin ( dermatitis ,rash, hair loss) urinary system (impaired kidney function, cystitis ) other side effect (brittle nail , recurrent infection , - psychic troubles, fatigue) . br B- Investigation: - (complete blood count, blood chemistry). br C- Follow up of chemotherapy (weekly, every two week, others). br D- Regulatary of treatment (regular, irregular). br E- Assessment of Stomatitis such as (dryness, pain, redness, secretions, lacerations). br F- Grade of inflammations (mild, moderate, severe). br G- Effects of stomatitis on eating and mood of child. br The demographic data of 100 studied children with stomatitis 56% aged 6:8 years in study group and 70% in control group. The mean and S.D is 58 mean age is 8.62±2.60 years in study group and 8.06± 1.60 in control group br Related sex 58% male in study group and 66% female in control group .And related to father education 68% moderate educations in study group and 62% in control group br Also according to the relationship between grade of stomatitis and duration of treatment in control - study groups with highly significant differences ( p-lt;o.ooo) in both study and control groups with 85% had a mild grade of stomatitis with duration of treatment 2-3 days in study group vs. 68.8 % in control group . br The present study revealed that significant increase in relation between grade of stomatitis and result of treatment in study groups with significant differences (p-lt;o.o5) with92.9%in mild grade had improvement and 69% in moderate grade had improvement and 42.85% in sever grade had improvement. br The present study showed significance decrease about manifestations of stomatitis (p-lt;0.05) with 60% in study have redness vs. 90% in control group also about ulceration 60% in study group vs. 90% in control group and 20% in study group have a pain vs. 98% in control group
