Abstract The introduction of radjojrranuno assay tests with ts high accuracy rate was a $timulus tc study the unction of’ the thyroid gland during pregnancy. Triiodothyronine CT3) was estimated by T3 uptake method using coated charcoal, and tetraiodcthyronine CT4) was estimated by radioirnznuno assay. Thes€ tests wer€ done in—vitro to avoid hazards of radiation.Thirty normal Egyptian females used as a control were investigated during the different phases of menstrual cycle (premenstrual, nidrnenotrual and post menstrual). It was found that, there was no significant changes during the different ph3ses of the cycle.T\centy no:’rraal Egyptian prefrtant females were studied and followed up through the whole period of pregnancy. The study revealed that, the thyroid gland was hyperactive and this activity started gradually in the first triitester where it lies tt the hihr level of normality, followed by gradual increase reaching; a maxtnum in the third tn— rnester. The increase i1x activity involves both P3 and T4 hormones in thc same proportion i.e. the curves being raIl €1. |
