Abstract Sleep is an active function under the control of different parts of the CNS. The primary function of sleep is to restore the body energy levels. Sleep has also important roles in cognitive functions (mainly memory), maintaining mood equilibrium, and in hormonal and immune regulation. Sleep disorders may seriously affect health and prolonged sleep deprivation may even endanger life. |
