المستخلص SUMMARY OF THE STUDY Research on memorization process is in fact, a study of the most important mental processes which contribute to the education process. Memorization is a human feature related to the psychological activity of man. Human behavior indicates that he remembers past experiences to deal with his future competently and skill fully. Memorization depends upon the learners desire for learning his style of getting new information, relating it to his knowledge and the benefits he can get - i.e., the degree of creativity to him. Evidence has shown the we can help our pupils in all applied fields to improve their memory since we can effect their attitude toward learning. Man mostly needs past expenences so that he can solve present problems. This process is based on the assumption that past experience leave some mental images on the mind in some way. Recently a new trend appeared in response to the shift toward interest ill the level of subject matter treatment (on the learners part). This type/pattern of treatment has an effect on memorizing and retaining the subject matter than more repetition. The theory of information processing levels is based on the principle that mechanical repetition of the subject matter-does not help its remembrance, but it should be processed at a deeper level so as to develop and increase the effectiveness of remembrance. Thus, the depth of treatment links the new information to the past ones which In tum leads to memorization based on understanding and meaning. This study aims at finding out the effect of organization, connection and levels of information treatment on the memorization process of pupils at the first-stage of basic education. It also aims at reorganizing the cognitive structure of subject matters which help facilitate remembering these information. In addition, this study aims at emphasizing the importance of interconnection between subject and matters understanding the meaning through depth of information treatment. Previous studies have been dealt with according to two main topic areas : (a) information organization or connection and its effect on memorization, and (b) information treatment and its relationship to information memorization. The research sample consists of 1200 pupils (male and female) in grade four of the first stage of basic education. Three hundred pupils responded to the first form of the organized and disorganized lists. Another 300 pupils responded to the second form of the above lists. The remaining 600 pupils were divided into three levels, of 200 each: the surface, the medium, and the deep levels. The study tools/instrwnents included the following: 1- Intelligence pictured test by A. Zaki Saleh 2- Systematic word lists - first form. 3- Unsystematic word lists - first form. ------ ~- --~ 4- Systematic word lists - second form. 5- Unsystematic word lists - second form. Statistical procedures included the following : analysis of variance, analysis of skewness” Shafih range for difference and t-test. Results of the study have shown that: (1) There are statistical differences between the mean score of group one of systematic information and group two of unsystematic information on memorization scale in favor of the first group. (2) The sample mean score on memorization scale differs according to the different levels of information proceeding in favor of the third level deep treatment. (3) Sample retrieval could be predicted through information organization form one and two. (4) Remembrance could be predicted through information processing. The research results have been interpreted in the light of the theoretical background/framework and results of relevant previous studies. |
