Abstract

This study was carried out on160 apparently healthy foreign horse to study the incidence and clinical field findings and observations of equine colic beside the roles of equitation management and environment cited in causing of equine colic, as well as biochemical, pathophysiological, pathological &electron microscopic change findings associated with colic, in addition to the implicit roles of recent mycotoxins in diet of colicky horses to determine specific types and amounts. Horses used for eventing, or in training had a significant higher incidence rate of colic. Age revealed that the most susceptible age was (2-10) years. Monthly and seasonal incidence of colic it was cleared that the apparitions of colic were strongly related to the hot weather. The detection and determination of mycotoxine reveled that fumonisin exceeded the permissible limit which emphasized a risk factor for horses may considered in elevation the ID of colic. Data of leukon revealed significant leukocytosis with neutrophilia. biochemical profile in colicky horses cleared that some parameters were significantly decrease as total protein and sodium. Other was significantly increased as total bilirubin, lactat and creatinine. Gross cadaver examination showed enlargement congestion of liver, Kidneys , Lungs , Spleen & splenomegaly. Stomach showed signs of inflammation with severe congestion .Intestine either small or large were suffered from enteritis with thin wall , obstruction either internally or externally lead to gangrene and even rupture .The microscopic examination cleared that: Liver showed congestion of central vein,. Kidney showed congestion of glomerular tuft. Heart showed areas of hemorrhages , zenker’s necrosis. Lung showed signs of passive hyperemia accompanied with areas of hemorrhages. Spleen showed hemorrhages and haemosidrosis. Brain showed congestion of the blood vessels , nerve cells showed signs of necrosis , demylination, brain sand, focal gliosis. Intestine either small or large showed desquamation of the epithelial lining of villi and crypt of Luber kuhen, Examination by transmission electron microscope revealed that, Liver showed margination of chromatin at peripheral of nucleus. Kidney showed signs of irreversible change in jury in proximal convoluted tubules. Jejunum showed. Features of apoptosis were detected represented by cells rounded up of the plastic exhibiting cytoplasmic blebing Fragmentation and chromatin condensation. Cecum showed necrosis of epithelial lining.
