Abstract
A 24 mature male and 120 mature female Albino rats weighing 140-200 gm, mature males were introduced with proestrous virgin females and mating was confirmed by the presence of sperm in the vaginal smears and pregnant females were allocated into 3 equall groups: Control, Melatonin treated and Morphine Sulphate treared groups 40 rats each. Melatonin was injected sic at a dose 100 mg/kg.b.wt, morphine sulphate injected intramuscular with dose 10 mg/kg.b.wt and control injected with vehicle. The results revealed that melatonin injection show no teratogenic effect to rat embryoes While morphine sulphate show incomplete ossification in skull, ribs, fore limbs and hind limbs with different degree at 21st day of gestation. Also it showed low implantation sites and live embryoes but increase in the number of dead embroyoes and resorbed foetei at 14th day and 21st day of gestation.
