Abstract

The main objectives of the present study are: 1- Evaluating some different local and introduced flax genotypes and their resulted crosses under three different nitrogen levels (30, 45 and 60 kg Nitrogen/faddan) for some agronomical and technological traits, 2- Studying the potentiality of heterosis expression, degrees of dominance and magnitude of both general and specific combining abilities and their interactions with three different nitrogen fertilization levels, 3- Studying the nature of gene action controlling of inheritance some importance traits under three nitrogen fertilization levels and 4- Studying the sizable magnitude of the interaction between different genotypes and nitrogen levels and type of responses to nitrogen levels. This investigation was carried out during the two successive growing seasons 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 at Gemmeiza Agricultural Research Station (ARC). In the first growing season all possible crosses were made, including the reciprocal crosses in a full diallel mating design involving six parental flax genotypes. The genotypes used, included two dual purpose variety’s (Giza 8 and Sakha 2), one oil type strain (S.22) and three fiber type variety’s (Sakha 4, Sakha 3 and Ilona). In the second growing season 2007/2008, three separated and adjacent experiments were conducted, each one including 36 entries (six parents and their thirty F1 hybrids. These experiments were provided to test these entries under 30, 45 and 60 Kg Nitrogen per faddan. The three 77 experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Data were recorded on the following characters: Days to flowering, Days to maturity, Plant height, Technical length, Fruiting zone length, No. of apical branches per plant, No. of capsules per plant, Stem diameter, Straw yield per plant, Seed index, Seed yield per plant and Oil percentage. Variances and effects of general, specific and reciprocal were computed according to Griffing (1956 Method 1 - Model 1). Heterosis effects were computed relative to better parent. Potence ratios. Nature inheritance of gene action and genetic graphical analysis were computed according to Hyman (1954 a and b). The other statistical parameter were analyzed according to Steel and Torrie(1980).
