Abstract Worldwide growing water scarcity has increased the call for economic instruments to stimulate rational water use in agriculture which used to be the dominant waterconsuming sector despite of its relatively low marginal water productivity. Cost recovery is now widely accepted as a tool for sustainable water management. Following, the developing countries, where irrigation water is still often highly subsidized, has a tendency for introducing irrigationwater pricing as a policy to achieve more sustainable water use. However, the use of such policy is not without its negative consequences on the agriculture sector. Since the Egyptian agricultural sector act as a major sector for the development of the Egyptian economy, any policy affecting it should be examined carefully regarding its potential impacts on such vital sector. For this purpose, this study is for the simulation of the potential impacts of pricing the irrigation-water on the economic performance of the agricultural sector in Egypt. |
