Abstract

In the present work, a Visual Computer Package (VCP) is developed for design and simulation of integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) and how it could be integrated with an exiting Egyptian refinery. Object oriented programming with Visual Basic (VB) is used to offer flexible, reliable and friendly user-interface. The interface aids plant’s designers, operators and other users to perform different calculations such as the expected yield, energy and economics. In addition, the package enables the designers to perform modifications on an existing plant or to develop the conceptual design for new configurations. The integrated gasification combined cycle (named here as units), such as gasifier, separator, compressor, combustion chamber, pipes, turbine are stored as icons in a visual library. This visual library enables the user to construct different configurations by just clicking the mouse over the required units (icons). The developed visual program specifications (accuracy, friendly interface ) are examined.
The present package offers a great help not only to the designers and operators but also for researchers, educators and students.
