المستخلص Propolis is a resinous mixture materials that honey bees collect from tree buds, sap flows, or other botanical sources. It is used as a sealant for unwanted open spaces in the hive. Propolis is now believed to prevent diseases and parasites from entering the hive, and to inhibit bacterial growth. The aim of the present work is to study certain factors affecting the amounts of propolis gathered by worker honeybees in different locations during the experimental period. from wax combs used for more than three years produced highest amount of propolis was obtained from El - Baraka followed by Moshtohor and the least amounts were, however, recorded in Kafr Saad and Kafr Elwan. The data show that the amounts of propolis in the wax comb is period used dependent on he old combs which used in he hives. On the other hand, the first hybrid Italian bees collected more propolis than the carniolan ones. The highest amount of crude extracts propolis were found in summer season. followed by spring. autumn and the lowest was however, recorded in winter season. This was common for both hybrids under study. Moreover. the highest amount of propolis was obtained in cotton blooming period followed by clover and citrus flowering periods. |
