Abstract EOC is a silent killer till now.75% of EOC diagnosed lately were nothing could be done more than palliative treatment .The hope to cure EOC depend on early detection.Universal screening using serum CA- 125 combined with 2D TVS could not fulfill WHO criteria of successful screening test. Low incidence, high cost, low specificity and sensitivity remain obstacles. There is great advance in ultrasound technology. Doppler US and 3D sonar added much to the 2D PVS. Sensitivity and specificity increased .All this add its impact on screening. The revolution in DNA technologies highlights proteomes as promising biomarkers. Novel candidate for serum biomarker screening are under extensive research.Study of the pathogenesis of EOC raise the awareness with the importance of angiogenesis in this solid tumor. Many factors play important role in tumor angiogenesis. VEGF is one of them.We review VEGF isoforms, their function, and importance in malignant angiogenesis . |
