Abstract

The present study was conducted to find out a new alternative baits for rodents and to assess the damage caused by rodents to certain field crops as well as to barks of certain fruit trees. A special stress was laid on the evaluation of certain traditional and new anticoagulant rodenticide under laboratory and field conditions. Also, tests were carried out to test certain common insecticides as rodent repellents under pen and field conditions.
The results obtained throughout this work can be
summarized as follows:
I- Food preference of rodents under laboratory and field conditions:
(1) Laboratory tests:
The results of preferability of 3 rodent species
Sudan grass, sorghum and pearl millet reveal that Average consumption of A. niloticus male was higher for pearl—millet than for sorghum or sudan grass, whereas females consumed much more amount of sorghuni than pearl—millet and sudan grass. No.remarkable difference was recorded between sexes in consumption of the different food species.
