Abstract The present investigation was carried out to study some bicecological aspects of banana aphid, Pentalonia nigronervosa Coquerel and its control in Assiut Governorate. The biological studies were directed to determine the effect of constant temperature of 18°, 200, 22°, 24°, 26° and 28°C and fluctuating regimes of 24°/12°C (X= 18°C) , 28°/12°C (X= 20°C) , 28°/16°C (X= 22°C) and 28°/20°C (X=24°C) on the development and reproduction of the pest. Ecological studies were also made on the temporal distribution of banana aphid and its predaceous insect, Coccinella undecimpunctata (L.) under field conditions, during two seccussive seasons (1987 and 1988). Two banana plantations (Hindi variety) were selected to conduct these studied. At the first location (Awlad-Ibrahim), banana plantation has been cultivated for many years, whereas, at the second one (Nazlet-Abdelah), banana cultivation has been recently introduced. Counts of banana aphid and its predator were carried out on the lower and upper levels of the plant. Moreover, studies were also made on the chemical control of banana aphid in the field. The results of these studies could be surnmerized as follows: 1- Biological studies: 1-1- Nympha]. stage: Duration of the total nymphal stage at constant temperature ranged from 9.02 days at 26°C to 16.91 days at 18°C. |
