Abstract

- Poisoning continues to be an important health threat worldwide and represents a challenge to the diagnostic and treatment skills of the physician; it is particularly a universal problem among children. ”One man’s medicine is another man’s poison” Many parents are afraid that if a substance is toxic or poisonous, it is deadly. This is not necessarily true as the substance is toxic or poisonous if it can cause any negative symptom. Acute poisoning, a common emergency is one of the important causes of morbidity and mortality in children especially in developing countries, also is a significant problem in developed countries as well, and so accidental poisoning remains an important health issue in children globally. The present study aimed to analyze different patterns of poisoned cases below age of discrimination (7 years) admitted to Menofiya poison control center (MPCC) from different aspects; clinical manifestations (symptoms and signs), investigations with emphasis on that concerning acid-base and electrolyte disturbances and their relation to the outcome at the time of discharge from (MPCC).
