Abstract SUMMARY The present investigation was carried out at Shanda— weel Agricultural Research Station, Agricultural Research Center. during 1986/87 and 1987/88 seasons to study the effect of two planting dates (October 15 and November 15) and three levels of potassium fertilization (0, 75 and 150 kg/K2O7fed) as 1< sulphate (48% 1<20) on growth, fodder yield and chemical constituents of seven fodder beet cultivars (Lamona, Labora, Ros play, Gumbo, Abondo, tlonovert and Markanta). A split—plot design was used with four replications for every planting date. The main plots were used for fodder beet cultivars, while the sub—plots were occupied by potassium fertilization levels. Combined analysis for both planting date was occurred. The results obtained could be summarized as follows: A- Growth characters: I— Root length/cm: The root length of fodder beet was significantly affected by planting date in favour of early planting as compared to the late one in two seasons. The seven fodder beet cultivars had highly significant differencas in root length ing two growing season. Labora gave the highest root length in both season, while Ros play and Markanta was the lowest value in the first and second season, respec— ti vely. |
