Abstract
No doubt that there are several incurable eye diseases result in blindness for hundred thousands of individuals each year. The two most common outer retinal degenerative diseases are age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP). AMD is more prevalent, but RP is more severe . In summary, RP and AMD do not result in complete degeneration of the retina, but, at least in the case of RP, it may not be correct to assume that the information processing circuitry of the inner retina is intact.
