The study cevled that, at the warl 4 level, sugar production and consumption in 1S85 amount to about 100 ml1ion and 98 million tonn respr?ctively. At the local level production and consurnnt±on in 1994 amount to 716 thcusrjd tons and 1.4 million ton9 resDee-tively. The local gap between production and consurpton is estiratE’d tu 1984 at about J54 thouuend tons. The annual area of suar eann in Egypt amounts to 250 thou3and feddrn-s representinr ].2 percent of te total area of sugar cane in Africa. Yields in Ep-ypt ranks first and production ranks second esioung producing African cauntres. At the wand level Egyntian yield ranks fiftL. krnong the three major producIng Srovinces in Egypt: Kena, Aswan, and Elmeria, Kena ranks first in tes of ares (141 thousand feddans) • yield (36S68 tons! |
