Abstract

This study was conduced to investigate the effect of different levels (2.5%,5%and 7.5%)of sweet potato leaves, sugar beet leaves and mixture of them (1:1 ratio)on liver and kidney functions, blood lipid profile, blood sugar and some antioxidant enzymes in rats feeding with diet containing cholesterol. In addition to,determination of phenolic compounds of sweet potato leaves and sugar beet leaves samples by HPLC.Fourty four male albino rats weighing (150 5 gm.B.wt.per each),were used and devided into eleven equal groups, one was kept as a control-ve group, while the other ten groups were fed on diet containing cholesterol for 3 weeks to obtain hypercholesterolemic rats.At the end of experimental period (28 days),animals were sacrificed.Blood samples were collected to determine the following parameters: serum total cholesterol,Triglycerides, lipoprotein fractions (HDL-C,LDL-C and VLDL-C),liver enzymes (ALT,AST and ALP),total protein and total bilirubin, urea, uric, and creatinine, fasting plasma glucose,super-oxide dismutase and glutathione reductase, liver, kidney, heart for histopathological examination. The obtained results concluded that, sweet potato leaves, sugar beet leaves and mixture of them (1:1)ratio caused an improvement of all chemical analysis.Hsitopalthological examination was confirmed the bio-chemical determinations. Key words:sweet potato leaves, sugar beet leaves, hypercholesteroelemic.
