Abstract The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using an EFL Music -Based Program on developing primary third graders’ listening and speaking skills and their attitudes towards learning English. Eighty third graders were randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control one. The experimental group was taught using the EFL Music- Based Program while the control one received conventional instruction where only five text book songs were offered. The tools of the study included a Music- Based Program, a listening test, a speaking test and an attitude scale. Equality between the experimental and control groups on the dependant variables was ensured by using’t’ test. After implementing the Music-Based Program in teaching the experimental group, post testing was undertaken and the data obtained were analyzed using’t’ test and Eta-squared formula to calculate ’t’ value and the effect size of the program. The results revealed that the subjects of the experimental group surpassed their counterparts in the control one on the post tests of listening, speaking and the attitude scale. Discussion of these findings, recommendations, and suggestions for further research were presented. |
