Abstract
The significance of the present study is shown by its title, as it deals with an important area in international politics in terms of security, economic and strategic aspects. The study provides a vision of the dimensions whereby Yemen can contribute to solving many of the problems from which Gulf countries are suffering and in many aspects, on top of which is the problem of population.
Despite the insecurity and instability from which the area is suffering, this condition had a great effect on Yemen and drove it to interact with all the events which the area witnessed and which Yemen played a noticeable role in dealing with. That role emerged during the Iraqi-Iranian War in the 1980s as well as in second Gulf crisis in 1990/1991. However, differences in Yemeni perceptions and calculations spaced out the positions between the two sides and had peaceful significances for Yemen.
This led Yemeni leaders to audit its actions and look for another alternative to deal with the new regional situation. The auditing policy appeared, and this policy enabled Yemen to avoid most of the negative effects of its attitude towards the crisis.
This was helped by the events of September 11, 2001 and the other developments resulting from them, the most important of which were the development of the Yemeni-Gulf and Yemeni-American, the retrogression of the American-Saudi coalition, and the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq. The study concluded with some results and recommendations aid the scenarios of the Yemeni role expected in the future.
