المستخلص

Airways hyperresponsiveness can occur as solitary evidence of airways
dysfunction.Because hyperresponsiveness is associated with the presence
and severity of disease, it is important to measure and quantitate airways responsiveness. The most useful challenge procedure appears to be the
methacholine challenge, not so much because it offers the best specificity of the challenge procedures but because it has been characterized well.
The aim of this observational cross- sectional study is to assess the
bronchial hyperresponsiveness in children with intermittent asthma and mild to moderate persistent. Twenty five patients participated in the study all were subjected to methacoline challenge test(MCT) skin prick test total serum IgE and measurement of peripheral blood eosinophil count.
We detected 40% of patients showed BHR. The mean concentration of methacoline at which the test was discontinued is 6.11±3.3 mg. There was a statistically significant correlation between IgE and eosinophilia and between PC20 and age of the patients. We found no statistical significance between BHR and the following: skin test, IgE, eosinophilia and the severity of the disease.
