Abstract

A total number of 112 Friesian calves from birth to four 4 months old I{ere included in this investigation . Animals be.1Dnged to Bani-morr and n-Hammam stations, Assiut governorate.
~nimals in Bani-morr station were classified into
Gr.I.
Their age varif’d from birth to one month and contained 12 Friesian calves (diseased) in addition 10 Friesian calves which proved to be clinicilly healthy by both clinical and la boratory methods of examination (control).
Gr.ll.
Their are aged from one to two months and contained 13 diseased and 8 control calves.
Gr.III.
Their age varied from two to three months and contained 11 diseased calves and 10 control calves.
Gr. IV.
Their age varied from three to four months and contained 14 diseased
and 10 control calves
The levels of b.1Dod serum of the following parameters were estimated
1- Total protein 2- albumin
3- g.1D bulin
4- Albumin/G.1Dbulin

The study revealed that the most prominent clinical signs of pneumonia Friesian calves included nasal discharge. fever, cough. conjunctivitis. loroxia and tachypenia signs of Lower respiratory embarrassment were ’ident.
rhe b:iDchemical analysis of bJood sera revealed the fol1Dwing Facts :
1) Highly sign.:ificant decrease (p < 0.01)in both total protein and humin levels in all examined diseased animals when compared with the ealthy ones. Meanwhile the blood serum globulin sho~ed a highly [gn.:ificant (p < 0.01) flactuation in diseased animals when compared
ith the control ones.
2) A highly Sign.:ificant decrease in the levels of blood serum glucose, itamin A & ~-carotene and vitamin C in all diseased animals were evident.
i.
3) Blood serum electrolytes showed significant alterations in the evels of sodium, potassium and chloride level., in diseased calves in all ~roups when compared w:ith the healthy ones.
Treatment of diseased animals was carried out using bisolvon. )xytetracycline. theracanzane. adrenaJin • Cevarole and glucose as 5]ucose in saline (detailed are included ID chapter of material and methods). Blood serum samples were taken pre and post-treatment to study the influence of treatment on clinical findings and studied biochemical parameters.
The second part of the study was camed on 24 calves of age varied from one day to 15 days old at EL-Hamman farm where 17 of them injected w:ith Ultra-corn us:ing two doses with one week interval, meanwhile the other 7 calves were leaved as contro~

Finally , it can be ad vised that treatment of diseased animals m ust be applied as soon as possible to overcome the complication and economic losses Correction of hygienic and environmental conditions lead to reduction in the spreading of respiratory diseases and complication that can be arised. Also injection of UJira-corn twicely-to newly-born calves at birth, and at one week interval ; increased the resistance of the calves against infection and help the calves to face any possible respiratory
disturbances.
