Abstract

This work has been carried out to investigate the protective effect of green tea extract (60mg/animal/day as a high dose and 15mg/animal/day as a low dose) administered to albino rats following subacute toxicity (1/30 &1/60ld50) caused by the exposure to fenitrothion insecticide for 28 days . blood samples werw taken at 1, 7, 14 and 28 days for the determination of the biochemical parameters . histopathological studies were carried out on the liver, kidney and thyroid gland at the end of the experiment subacute toxicity with fenitrothion induced significant inhibition in palasma acetylcholinesterase (AchE)and total esterase activity . Damage in liver and kidney tissues was also observed and confirmed by elevation of ALT, AST,urea, creatinine and thyroxin hormone, as well by elevation in lipid peroxidation marker malondialdehyde (MdA). A decrease in each of total glutathione (GSH), plasma glucose, albumin , cholesterol, triglycerids, triiodothyroxine horone leve and in glutathione S-transferase (GST)activity was also observed . green tea supplementation (60mg/animal/day)partially counteract the toxic effect of fenitrothion on the oxidative stress and repair of the tissue damage in liver , kidney and thyroid gland , especially when animals were intoxicated with 1/60 LD50 dose.
