Abstract The inappropriate use of emergency rooms and outpatient clinics in hospitals by the public has been the subject of debate for many years.Patients often attend with problems which could equally have been the inappropriate use so it difficult to guarantee access for real emergency cases, decreases the readiness for care, produces negative spillover effects on the quality of emergency services & outpatient clinics, raises overall costs in hospitals and this lead to patient and provider dissatisfaction.So this study was conducted with the aim to:Proper utilization of health services, through study of Frequency and causes of inappropriate use to out patients clinics and emergency room in Menoufia university hospitals, primary health care using, impact of inappropriate use on Patient and health care Providers satisfaction, and Study impact of act number (231) on inappropriate use.Procedures of the study: A cross-sectional study will include (440)<patients attended general out patient clinics (Internal medicine - Pediatric-Psychiatric and Gynecology), (931) patients attended G.B.S. clinics and (2136) patients attending emergency room at the time of patient attendance in Menoufia University hospitals during one week in emergency rooms and one month in out patient clinics from (30/3/2008 to 2/5/2008) also the study included (211) health care providers in the sits of study. The study done by help of trained house officers in hospitals. A pre designed questionnaire sheet will be constructed to be used for data collection from patient and providers.House officers of the target clinics will be trained to complete, the questionnaire form, verification of diagnosis and Evaluation of urgency will be done by the senior residents and recorded sheet. |
