Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to present a mathematical study of some problems on the flow of a conducting fluid through porous medium in circular pipes under the effect of an external magnetic field. The most important characteristic of the flow “velocity distribution “ in circular pipes has been determined analytically using an approximate method and has been represented in graphical forms. This study includes four chapters. Chapter one presents a general review about the importance of magnetohydrodynamics and its applications in different cases. In this chapter, an introduction, a comprehensive review of literature, a lay out of the problem, some related definitions, some important parameters and fundamental equations are discussed and reported. While in chapter two, The unsteady MHD flow through porous medium in circular pipes with constant pressure gradient is investigated. In this chapter, an introduction, formulation of the problem, analytical approximate solution, results and comments are studied and reported. Finally a comparison between exact and approximate solution has been presented. In chapter three, The unsteady MHD pulsatile flow through porous medium in circular pipes has been investigated. In this chapter, an introduction, formulation of the problem, analytical approximate solution, results and comments are discussed and reported. In chapter four (last one) The unsteady MHD pulsatile flow through porous medium in circular pipes under the effect of body acceleration has been investigated. This chapter includes an introduction, formulation of the problem, analytical approximate solution, results and comments. .It should be noted that the common computational methods have not been used for obtaining the results of this study. Also the results of some special cases of this study are compared with the results of the preceding investigations using exact analytical solution, the results show that the deviation is found very small.
