Abstract
A total of 807 faecal samples were collected from children, calves, lambs and dogs. 251 samples of them were collected from diarrheic children, 254 from diarrheic and apparently healthy calves, 250 from lambs in Behera and Menoufia Governorates and 52 dog faecal samples were collected from Behera Governorate. All faecal samples were examined using direct smear and formal ether to detect protozoa other than Cryptosporidium. Then all samples were examined using Modified Zheil- Neelsen (MZN) technique to detect Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts. Enzyme Linked Immunosorbant Assay (ELISA) was applied to confirm all (+ve) samples previously detected by MZN. In addition PCR, was carried out on 11 MZN +ve faecal samples from human and animal species. C. parvum oocysts were detected at percentages of 10.24%; 12.4%; 3.84% and 11.95% in calves, lambs, dogs and children respectively.
