Abstract

Summary:-This work was planed to study the prevalence of leptospirosis and babesiosis in cows and buffaloes as well as the presence of leptospirosis in dogs as a reservoir host in some area at Sharkia provinces. Diagnosis of leptospirosis and babesiosis in these animals through clinical signs, serologically detection of specific antibodies (MAT, IFAT & SPA for leptospirosis and ELISA & blood films for diagnosis of babesiosis) and trial for isolation of leptospira from urine of suspected infected and in-contact animals as well as demonstration of babesia spp. in blood film. Moreover trials of treatment of four groups of cows confirmed to be infected naturally by leptospira spp. (using dihydrostreptomycin- penicillin, oxytetracycline, amoxicillin and tylosine) and two groups of cows confirmed to be infected naturally by babesia spp. (using Diminazine aceturate and Imidocarb dipropionate).
1- Seroprevalence of leptospirosis in cows, buffaloes and dogs:
Six hundred and fifty five cows, 280 buffaloes and 90 contact dogs raised in different management systems at Sharkia province. They were used to study the prevalence of leptospirosis clinically and detection of specific antibodies against leptospirosis using MAT, IFAT and SPA tests. Eighty nine cows and 80 buffaloes had different clinical signs as fever, haemoglobinurea and abnormal milk (bloody, threads, clotted and green yellow milk) as well as they were suffering from gynecological problems as infertility and/or abortion. Moreover 20 dogs had some clinical signs as slight weakness, refuse to eat, vomiting, ictrus, muscular stiffness and soreness particularly of hind legs and slimy salivation tinged with blood. .
