Abstract

Neonatal sepsis is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among newborn early recognition of sepsis in the neonate is one of the most difficult problems facing clinician today. Those infants often present with non-specific symptoms and signs so that failure or delay in treatment may affect the out come sepsis is a clear risk factor for thrombocytopenia in critically ill patients and the severity of sepsiscorrelates with the decrease.The abjection of this work to asses platelet count in LBW neonates with culture a proven sepsis and alterable to detailed if then were organism specific platelet response among the 3groups of infection agents (Gram+ve Crame –ve bacteria), and fungi . And determine the management of severe thrombocytopenia and in particular, the decision to give or not give platelet transfusion This study comprised 40 LBW neonates admitted to NICU of Monshaat Soltan. Suzan Mubarak hospital, Menofyia University during a
period of one year from April 2007 to April 2008 They were 20 female and 20 male. Their birth weight ranged between 800 and 2500gms. Their gestational age ranged between (28- 35) wks .All neonates admitted to NICU undergoes Pretreatment evaluation and followup by adequate medical history taking of the mother, medical history of the newborn including sex, gestational age and birth weight and complete clinical examination of the neonate laying stress on manifestations of NS.
