Abstract

ABSTRACT
A field experiment was out during winter seasons of 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 at the Experimental farm, faculty of Environmental Agricultural Sciences, El-Arish , Suez Canal University. The research aimed to study the effect of different types of fertilizers, i.e., four sources of organic manure( chicken manure ”Chm”; cow manure ”Cow ”; compost ”Cop”; town refuse ”ToR” ) without or with recommended Npk, and without or with bio-fertilizer (Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria ”NFB”)on growth and yield of garlic clone ”sids-40 ” under sandy soil conditions using drip irrigation system These treatments were arranged in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replicates. Planting was done on September 25th, in both seasons (2006/2007 and 2007/2008). The obtained results could be summarized as follows: Application of ChM at a rate of 20m3/fed +NPK (recommended dose ) WAS the best treatment which recorded the highest value for all studded traits followed by cow manure at A rate of cow at a rate of 40m3/fed +NPK (recommended dose). Also, there were no significant differences between the previous treatments and applying NFB with 20m3/fed of ChM at 90 and 120 days after planting in both seasons. Concerning yield with straw, applying ChM at a rate of 20m3/fed +NPK or 40m3/fed of Com+NPK (resulted in the highest values of yield or three studied grades and total yield in both seasons However, no significant differences were found among these two treatments and other treatments for grade 1 and 2, but grade 3had no significant differences than those two treatments only with treatments having NFB in both seasons. Application of 20m3/fed ChM +NPK resulted in the highest content of N in garlic leaves in both seasons. Generally, the total weight loss percent of garlic bulbs was significantly affected during the storage period . the highest weight loss was with treatments applied with NPK fertilization, while, the lowest weight loss was with applying bio treatments and organic manures only.
