Abstract
Primary malignant tumours of the nose and paranasal sinuses are relatively rare tumors among all malignant tumours throughout the world smoking and occupational exposure remain the predominant risk factors.
The aim of this work is hospital based registration and histo-pathological study of all cases of malignant sinonasal tumours presented to Ain Shams University Hospital and Ain Shams Specialized Hospital in the period from 2001-2005 in order to confirm histopathological diagnosis and to detect the relative frequency in relation to other malignant tumors.
The cases of the study were registered, the histopathological diagnosis and available clinical data as regard age, sex and presentation were collected from files of Ain Shams Hospitals during the period from 2001-2005.
The cases of the study were 43 cases,40 cases of them were primary malignant sinonasal tumours and 3 cases were metastatic tumours.
The results showed that the total number of sinonasal tumours represented 0.7% of all malignant tumours. Concerning the age,it was ranged from 14to 78 with a mean age 50 years.
The most common age group was from 50 to 75 representing (53.5%), followed by the age group from 25-50 years representing (28%). This registry comprised 19 male cases representing (44.2 %), while the female cases were 24 representing (55.8%).
