Abstract

Abstract
- Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) plantation increased fast due to its economic importance to the Egyptians. The cultivated area with potato reached 327413 feddans in the season of 2009 according to the Agricultural Economic Statistics of Egyptian Agricultural Ministry. Potato stem canker and black scurf diseases caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn (the imperfect stage of the teleomorph Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) Donk) are among different diseases that attacked potato crop under the Egyptian climate conditions.
- Occurrence of black scurf and stem canker diseases during 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 recorded different percentage of disease infection in five different governorates i.e. El-Beheira, El-Dakahlia, El-Gharbia, El-Menofia, and El-Sharkia
- The anastomosis grouping test, was conducted on isolates the R. solani, revealed that the tested isolates were characterized as AG-3.
- Nine potato cultivars were tested against the most pathogenic R. solani from El-Sharkia, the resistance was Draga cv. And susceptible was Lady Rosetta cv.
- Some biochemical changes in moderately resistant (Draga) and susceptible (Lady Rosetta) cultivars inoculated or non-inoculated with R. solani were studied, Peroxidase (PO) and polyphenoloxidase (PPO) activities, Hydrolytic enzymes, Reducing, non-reducing and total soluble sugar contents, Free, conjugate and total phenol contents, fraction of phenolic compound, determine Eight common fatty acids methyl esters
- Electrophoretic studies include genetic variability using the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique and protein profiles between non-inoculated or R. solani inoculated potato resistance cv. Draga and susceptible cv. Lady Rosetta 20, 40, and 60 days after of sowing using SDS-PAGE technique were evaluated.
