Abstract

The present investigation was carried out to study the post-hatchery developmental changes in the oviduct of high (Hy-Line) and low (Dandarawi) egg-producing fowl. It was conducted at the Department of Anatomy and Histology, Faculty of Veterinary, Medicine, Assiut University, during the period from Jan. to Dec. 1991.
The material employed in this study was composed of 66 oviducts from Dandrawi and Hy-Line strains. Sampling was carried out within the period from the first day to 24 weeks after hatching.
Biometerical as well as histomorphological studies of the oviduct in both breeds revealed:
- The average body weight for Hy-Line was significantly heavier than fgor Dandarawi at all ages.
The increase in the oviduct length for both strains was slow till the 16th weeks of age. At the 20th weeks of age, the oviducal length was markedly longer for Dandarawi than that for Hy-Line. Tge average length was 17cm and 10cm, respectively. At 24 weeks of age, the oviducal length in both breeds was rapidly increased. At this period of development, ther oviducal length for Hy-Line was higher than for Dandarawi. Their average length was 75cm and 70cm, respectively.
