Abstract

Microscopie examination of 531 faeeal samples of pigeons of diterent ages at various localities in I2ai1ia Gçveztorat in igypt, revealed that the percentage of cocci— diosis among exanined samples reached 52.2 %, and that the incidence of infection decreased in older ages, Squabs under 15 days old did not show any oocysts in their faeces. Postmortem lesions, consisted of enteritis In all parts of the intestinal tract. Oooysts were detected along the ia2testüle by direct wet smears followed by concentration floatation techiique.
Identification of th isolated EImera occysts basoU c ahape, size , sporulation time and prepatent period indicated that F ibean e234 E. coiunbae were the species affecting pigoons.
Experimentally infected of pigeon squabs at 30 days old with sponflated oocysta of both E. labbeana. and E.
£21i resulted in general symptoms which appeared on the day. Greenish diarrhea started on the day post
infection.
The effect of dosing 33ff eated pigeon with anproliurn, arpriiiocid and monensi sodiin resulted In Improvement of oondjtion In all the medioa-aenta although arprinocid appeared to have slieht better body weights.
