Abstract 1. The degree of exposure of chicken flocks to infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) at different localities in Assiut and El-wadi El-Gadid Governorates were studied serologically and virologically. 2. 31.59% of the examined serum samples from breeding flocks showed precipitins to IBDV. 3. 40% of the negative serum samples in the AGP test showed neutralizing antibodies. 4. Out of 440 untreated yolk samples examined by the AGP test, 53 (12.04%) were positive. Treatment of yolk with chloroform help the detection of undetectable precipitins by the AGP test (17.27%). 5. Day-old chicks from Beni-Mur poultry farm possessed precipitating and neutralizing antibodies to IBD virus which protected 20% of them up to 2 weeks of age. 6. 12 isolates IBDV were recovered from 563 moribund and dead, 3 - 9 – week-old chicks. 7. Two isolates were subjected to physical chemical, serological, and biological characterization. |
