Abstract

There is considerable variation in the prevalence of HCV infection in different parts of the world, which may be largely attributable to the differing exposure to risks for parenteral and non parenteral transmission.
Those with persistent HCV viraemia remain potentially infectious, but as the majority are asymptomatic or have only mild, non-specific symptoms, they may have not been diagnosed and may be unaware of their risk to others.
An increasing number of asymptomatic individuals will be identified as HCV carriers.
Prevalence of HCV infection in Egypt from 17 % to 26 % which is higher than in Europe.
In National Liver Institute the PMR of HCV was (80%) which is also high in relation to other Liver diseases.
HCV transmission may be acquired through non-sexual or sexual factors while sexual transmission of HCV remains somewhat controversial previous studies indicate that transmission through sexual activity is uncommon, and most experts believe the risk of sexual transmission is low.
According to the Egyptian National Institutes of Health, people in stable, monogamous relationships do not need to change their current sexual practices, although they should discuss safer sex options if either partner is concerned about sexual transmission.
People with multiple sex partners should practice safer sex, in particular the use of latex condoms.
