Abstract In the present study, 31 patients showed positive blood culture. Six neonates out of 9 who were diagnosed to have septic arthritis by ultrasonography showed positive blood culture and the sole causative organism was Klebsiella. There was a statistically significant increase in white blood cells count and band cells (shift and the left) and a statistically significant decrease in platelets count (thrombocytopenia) in neonates diagnosed to have septic arthritis by ultrasonography as compared with babies without septic arthritis regarding CBC analysis. Six babies out of the 9 who were diagnosed to have septic arthritis had meningitis which was statistically significant. All neonates with ultrasonographic evidences of joint infection received abtibiotics according to the culture and sensitivity results for at least 4 weeks. |
