Abstract

In the present study an attempt was undertaken to investigate any possible antiulcer properties of some calcium channel blockers, H2-antagonists, and their combinations agaist two models of experimentally-induced gastric ulceration achieved by restraint and cold restraint stress.
The drugs selected for this investigation include verapamil, diltiazim, ranitidine, and famotidine.
In the present study, adult male albino rats were subjected to pyloric ligation and were classified into three main groups; nonstressed, restraint-stressed, and cold restraint-stressed groups.
In conclusion ,it is evident that calsium channel blockers and H2-antagonists could protect against development of experimental gastric erosion induced by restraint and cold restraint stress. The coadministration of these drugs is more beneficiel in ameliorating the causative parameters than the sole use of each one.
The assosiation of H2-antagonists with calsium channel blockers may be beneficiel in coronary patients with concomitant peptic ulcer disease.
