Abstract

The present study had investigated the relevance of Homocysteine to Brachial Flow-Mediated Vasodilatation and Carotid and Femoral Intima Media thickness in offspring of Hypertensive Patients The study had showed that offspring of hypertensive parents had higher mean values of SBP, DBP, LVMI, TG and homocysteine level as compared to control. With non invasive evaluation of endothelial function with high-resolution ultrasonography and Doppler normotensive young sibling of hypertensive patients showed increased carotid Femoral Intima-media thickness in comparison to control and impaired Flow-Mediated Vasodilation. Endothelial independant vasodilation was preserved in offspring of hypertensive patients In our study there was negative correlation between Flow-Mediated Vasodilation and carotid intima-media thickness. No correlation was found among carotid intima-media thickness, Flow-Mediated Vasodilation and homocysteine level in offspring of hypertensive parents. In our study the effect of homocysteine is not so marked it may be due absence of risk factors other than positive family history for hypertension The results suggest that large artery abnormalities may be present early in offspring of hypertensive parents predispose them to develop hypertension.
