Abstract
Summary : The aim of this study was to define the biology of surface epithelial neoplasms by specifically studying p53 tumor suppressor gene using monoclonal antibody that recognizes missesne mutation in it and mutation in k-ras oncogen that could be identified in DNA extracted from paraffin sections using (amplified created restriction enzyme) method.
Comprehensive explorations into the molecular genetics of benign ovarian epithelium, ovarian tumors of low malignant potential (LMP), ovarian carcinoma are necessary in order to expand our understanding of these tumors. Such explorations may also point to effective biological therapy for Low malignant potential tumors that progress. In addition, we need to determine how best to study the clinical behaviour of these tumors, most of them cured with surgery. As recurrences and progression can occur over decades, we need to follow patients for many years, as well as to bank tumor specimens for correlative laboratory studies.
