Abstract Typhoid fever is a public health problem of global magnitude, it’s a systemic illness caused by salmonella enterica serotype Typhi Although enteric fever has largely been eliminated in many parts of the world by improved sanitation, it remains a significant health threat in developing nations Traditionally, the production of Vi by serovar Typhi is a distinguishing feature of S. Typhi, and agglutination using Vi antisera is a routine procedure for the identification of the bacterium in research and diagnostic laboratories An effective vaccine based on purified Vi antigen has been developed and licensed for use as a parenteral vaccine against typhoid fever in humans The aim of this study is To detect the frequency of Vi negative Salmonella serovar Typhi isolated from patients of typhoid fever by non traditional methods To emphasized the importance of inclusion of Vi based single dose vaccine in The Expanded Programe of Immunization (EPI This study was done on 250 cases clinically suspected to be typhoid fever. These cases were subjected to blood culture by both automated BACTC 9050 and conventional methods, 90 cases of 250 were isolated by blood culture, confirmed to be typhoid by biochemical identification, bacteriophage typing and serotyping. |
