المستخلص This work aimed at studying the frequency and pattern of antibiotics use among University and Teaching hospitals as well as studying the knowledge, attitude and practice of the physicians at both hospitals Interviewing personal history in addition to questionnaire about KAP of the physicians at both hospitals were carried out for the period of the year 2008It was clear that, as the physicians in both University and Teaching hospitals, more or less, referred to the same medical school, their general knowledge about ABs use was similar The source of knowledge about ABs ranges from residents at the University hospitals to pharmacists and medical representatives in Teaching hospital The attitude of the University hospital physicians is to prescribe oral ABs while that for Teaching hospital is to prescribe oral and parenteral ABs Patient’s route of administration preferences was significantly higher in the University hospitals than in the Teaching hospital. At university hospital, parenteral Abs preferences reasons were less cost easier and availability As regard practice of the physician towards ABs, penicillin and ampicillin were the most frequently prescribed ABs at University hospitals while 2nd generation cephalosporin was the most frequently prescribed ABs at Teaching hospital. |
