The menopausal transition is a critical point in life so a woman’s health needs should be taken into account. How a woman goes through menopause may influence her future health significantly so women can seek medical intervention for symptoms that sufficiently disrupt their quality of life and can address changes that may have with long-term health implications rather than postponed until intervention is reactive after menopause. Aim of this study: increase the awareness towards menopause among perimenopausal women aging more than 40 year living in Alganean village suez - governorate . Subjects and methods: The study was conducted in Gabalayet Elfar, Gabalayet Elhataba which are tow hamlets of Alganean village over the women who fulfilled the inclusion criteria by using interview questionnaire through home visits over the period from April 2008 to July 2008 . Results of the study: showed that the studied women were mostly older than 45 years old (median age 45 year), the mean age was (46.08±4.16) ; married; educated to basic level and not working. (15%) of the studied women knew the correct definition of the menopause ; all women knew that every women will reach menopause at certain time usually between (35-60) year ; the most prevalent known perimenopausal symptoms among the studied women were insomnia (70.5%) while the least known one was easy fatigability (25.5%) ; more than fourth of women did not know the cause of such symptoms ; Osteoporosis was the most known postmenopausal complication (28.5 %) only (5%) knew that hormonal treatment can be used for perimenopausal symptoms and (63%) did not know any treatment , television was the main source of knowledge for (48.5%) of studied women . Age of the studied women, Educational level have statistical significant positive relationship with their level of knowledge towards menopause while occupation, Marital status do not have statistical significant relationship with it . also there is statistical significant positive relationship between (the age of the studied women, educational level, marital status, level of knowledge towards menopause) and their practices towards menopause. while occupation and attitude of studied women towards menopause do not have statistical significant relationship with these practices
