Abstract Soil microfauna and flora are the major components of soil biota The world beneath our feet contains nearly all of the animal phyla that are not exclusively marine Kevan 1965 The roles of the soil biota can be described in terms of allogenic and autogenic processes proposed by Jones and Lawton 1995 The allogenic processes such as carbon and nitrogen mineralization are direct products of soil organism metabolism These are modified by changes in the quality of the resources they are processing as a consequence of changes in plant species composition CO² and nitrogen enrichment of plants or pollution. |
