Abstract Aim of the work To evaluate the role of IFN-gamma in the pathogenesis of a plastic anemia and thrombocytopenia secondary to hepatitis-C virus infection. Conclusion Despite the absence of significant increase in serum IFN-γ in patients with a plastic anemia local effect can not be excluded and measurement of this lymphokine in bone marrow aspirate may explain the occurrence of a plastic anemia in some individuals. IFN-γ plays a major role in the occurrence of thrombocytopenia in case of hepatitis C patients and should be measured before the start of antivirus therapy in these patients. |
